In a world where boundaries dissolve and AI progresses swiftly, dread may be justified. Excellent human performance opportunities are emerging, benefiting organizations, people, and society. This barrier emphasizes empathy and inquiry as worry-busters and imagination-boosters. Teams require scalable, operationalized plans to grow and sustain people capacities to maximize potential. Those with more of these traits will certainly succeed, while those without may fall behind.

Companies value repeatable functional or technical skills. Stable companies made teaching these skills simpler. Standardized goods and services scaled best with repeatable processes. As the globe becomes increasingly interconnected, adapting to market situations and creating value are more crucial than scaling process efficiency. This aptitude, which is linked to entrepreneurship and innovation, rests more on curiosity and other human traits than employee technical capabilities.

Tech duplicates technical and functional work, but behavior differs. AI may generate music or visual art, but it cannot replicate curiosity and empathy, which stimulate creative discovery.

Organizations and employees must collaborate to actualize imagination. Purposeful development and cultural norms may scale and operationalize human attributes like curiosity and empathy to allow people and teams to define their work. To foresee career impacts of AI and other disruptive technologies, these human skills must be created, exercised, and deployed.

Providing workers with tools and secure venues to experiment, explore, and construct futures can develop these talents. Leaders can encourage people to ask questions about their employment to promote open work evolution and disruption that prioritizes human sustainability and organization-wide cocreation.

Recent years have seen AI, especially generative AI, actualize many of these ideals. ChatGPT, the first and most famous generative AI, achieved one million users in five days in 2022, whereas TikTok took nine months. AI is changing labor in practically every sector, including many previously unsolvable fields.

Many firms and people may struggle to conceive new human-technical work approaches using generative AI. The 2024 Global Human Capital Trends research found that 73% of respondents think firm talent should be tech-savvy, while 9% say improvement. Thus, many firms may lack innovation.

Workers worry technology taking over their jobs or requiring new skills, yet 70% would delegate more work to AI to save time and enhance creativity.

Businesses that solely differentiate through cost reduction or product development may lose short-term gains as technology develops. Humans and technology may need to cocreate knowledge, address hidden issues, and find value-enabling alternatives. This operations strategy needs scaling and training. Most executives say tech should show these talents. IKEA for instance is employing artificial intelligence to convert each call center agent into a designer, concentrating on creativity and human connection rather than procedure and method. These 8,500 call center staff since have undergone extensive design and human skills training.

Better skill development improves worker resilience, well-being, and mental health, supporting humanity. The current study found that standard reskilling programs are insufficient because change is too quick and employment is too dynamic, contributing to a workplace mental health crisis. Workers need skills and strategies to adapt to new futures. It enhances worker well-being and uncertainty management. Organizations should develop human-skilled workforce strategy and evaluate staff empathy and inquiry. Most employers value technical and functional skills. Deloitte’s Skills Based Organization global survey found that 68% of business and HR leaders trust their employees’ hard skills but only 48% their human talents.
