Doctoral Committee Meet
A doctoral committee meeting, or DC meeting, is a formal gathering where a PhD student presents their research progress and receives feedback from their advisory committee, which is made up of professors and experts in the field.
Purpose:
The DC meeting serves as a crucial checkpoint in a doctoral student’s journey, allowing them to:
- Present their research progress and ideas.
- Receive feedback and guidance from their committee members.
- Establish expectations for the committee members and the research process.
- Get feedback on how to proceed with the project.
- Committee Members:
The doctoral committee typically consists of faculty members, including the student’s primary advisor (chair) and other experts in the field.
Frequency: Doctoral students and their committee members meet at least once every 4 months. ISME will conduct DC Meeting Quarterly.
Preparation: Before the meeting, the student should:
- Submit a detailed research plan or progress report to the committee members at least 14 days before the meeting.
- Prepare a presentation summarizing their work, including their assessment of gaps in their research area, a summary of their work so far, and their coursework.
Key Topics: DC meetings can cover various aspects of the student’s research, including:
- Coursework and milestones for research.
- Half-yearly progress reports.
- Publications and conference participations.
- The student’s research plan and progress.
Outcomes: The committee’s feedback and recommendations will help the student refine their research and ensure they are on track to complete their dissertation.
Significance: The committee ultimately decides when the student has completed enough work to defend their dissertation.

ISME offers an additional and unique placement oriented value added term to groom students for the corporate world. The courses offered are around – Soft Skills, Communication Skills, Software Tools and Research Skills.

Course Structure
- Provisionally registered candidates shall undergo course work of one semester duration of 100 hours inclusive of course-end assessment.
- Coursework conducted in weekends over a period of 4 months.
- Calendar of events to be notified by the University.
- Course work classes to be conducted @ ISME research centre.
- Detailed course plan would be shared by the research centre.
- The suggested course structure for Ph.D. Programme in Management of UoM generally consists of :
- Research Methodology.
- Review of Literature and Seminars.
- Submission of Annual Progress Reports.
- Quality research paper publications.
- Thesis submission – After 3 years from the date of provisional registration.

Value Added Courses*
Value-added courses are supplementary programs designed to enhance students’ skills and knowledge beyond their core curriculum, often focusing on practical, industry-relevant topics to improve employability and career prospects. Department of Research at ISME regularly conducts guest lectures, workshops and faculty development programs for the benefit of its scholars. The topics on which such workshops were conducted in the past include Paper Writing Workshops, Thesis Writing, Structural Equation Modelling, Qualitative Research using Nvivo and many others

Admission to the Ph.D. program at ISME is highly competitive. The Admissions team reviews applications on an individual basis looking at both quantitative and qualitative aspects of an applicant’s professional and academic background. An elaborate selection process is followed to ensure quality enrolment.
Eligibility:
- General Merit candidates – Master’s degree or equivalent with minimum 55% marks. (50% in case of SC / ST Category)
- In case of in service candidates – a minimum of 5 years of regular experience associated with teaching profession as teachers/ library professionals/ physical education instructors/ laboratory staff in educational institutions.
- NET qualified and KSET candidates are exempted from taking the entrance exam
Selection Process:
Stage 1: Complete Application Form (Online)
Every applicant seeking admission to ISME needs to complete the Application Form, attach the required documents and submit the completed application to ISME’s Admission Office.
Stage 2: Personal Interview (Online / Face to face)
Shortlisted applicants shall be invited for a personal interview with a panel of experts from ISME.
Stage 3: Admission Decision
Based on the review of the application, test scores and the recommendation of the interview panel, the admission committee invites selected students for admission to the program. Admitted candidates are provided with the Admission offer letter. The admission would be final only after the receipt of confirmation of Admission Acceptance from the candidate and the payment of the registration fee. Fee once paid is nonrefundable. Admission will be confirmed once the candidate clears the entrance exam conducted by University of Mysore.
